Despite the hype it’s still a very close election and Republicans are losing the legal game over vote counting (though not as badly as they were losing in 2020), but the Democrats are not in a good place.
The Michigan rage rally was not a good sign. Neither is the base turning to drugs and alcohol.
As the Wall Street Journal (whose news team is not remotely conservative) reports, the joy is purely artificial now.
“I’m honestly legit kind of terrified,” said Rebekah Williams, a 46-year-old Atlanta resident wearing a T-shirt that read “pro science, pro choice, pro wrestling.” The thought of trying to get through the next couple of weeks until the election had her on edge, not to mention what might happen afterward. To get through it, she was counting on “a lot of marijuana.”
A Democratic lobbyist in Washington put it more succinctly: “There are not enough gummies I can take to soothe the angst!”
I would guess the gummies are not the kind you sell to kids.
Her husband, Luis Blanco, said his plan to get through the “nerve-racking” next two weeks was “a lot of Scotch.”
At least he’s acting like a man.
When a party starts turning to drugs and alcohol to manage its stress, it’s not in a good place.
When it yells at its own base, it’s not in a good place.
When it keeps bringing out Hitler, it’s not in a good place.
But the real question is what’s Kamala on to manage the ‘feels’ for the next week.
