New York Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman is currently positioned to lose his primary for reelection to a pro-Israel challenger. Bowman, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has held his seat since 2021 and is an outspoken voice in the far-left “Squad.” However, numerous bad headlines caused by Bowman’s poor decisions have caused his support to tank.
According to a recent poll, Bowman currently has only 31% support, while his opponent has 48%. He has been backed by his peers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), but his challenger has been endorsed by pro-Israel groups and Hillary Clinton.
Bowman’s prospects for reelection have collapsed over time, but it was entirely his fault. Last year, he pulled a fire alarm in a congressional office building, seemingly to delay a vote on a critical spending bill. However, Bowman insisted that he thought “it would open the door.” This excuse was mocked by Republicans, and Bowman was censured and charged with a misdemeanor.
Beyond that incident, though, Bowman has embraced despicable pro-Hamas talking points. For example, he refused to vote for a resolution that condemned Hamas for the October 7 terrorist attacks. He said, “One of the first lines was ‘condemn Hamas for this unprovoked attack.’ And I stopped reading at that point.”
“If we’re calling this an unprovoked attack, that means we’re going to ignore 18 human rights organizations calling Israel an apartheid state, and we’re going to ignore 75 years of military occupation, which is illegal,” Bowman said.
He has had a long history of spreading similar ideas, including writing poems about 9/11 trutherism on a blog he maintained while he was a middle school principal. Last year, he asserted that reports of sexual assaults by Hamas were false, saying that “There’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or raped women. But they still keep using that lie [for] propaganda.”
Bowman also appeared with Norman Finkelstein, saying he was “a bit starstruck” when introducing the anti-Israel author, who has previously praised Hezbollah and spread conspiracy theories about the Holocaust.

Jamaal Bowman has faced many controversies in his short time in office, and this is barely scratching the surface. Numerous others on the far Left have spewed equally terrible pro-terrorism rhetoric, so Bowman is not alone. It would be delightful to see him reap the consequences of his actions.
Bowman deserves to lose. We should relish in his defeat.
