A coalition of 20 attorneys general (AGs) from Republican states have launched an investigation into the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) over the group’s promotion of “transgender” medical procedures for minors.

As Breitbart reports, the primary cause of the investigation is the AAP’s claim that puberty blockers are “reversible,” which has repeatedly been proven to be false. The coalition is led by Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador (R-Idaho).

“The AAP continues to mislead and deceive consumers by maintaining its claim that puberty blockers are ‘reversible,’” reads a letter to the AAP by the AGs, released on September 24th. “That claim is misleading and deceptive and requires immediate retraction and correction.”

The letter goes on to cite state laws which forbid the practice of misleading consumers with regards to medical practices.

“Idaho law, for example, prohibits ‘[e]ngaging in any act or practice that is otherwise misleading, false, or deceptive to the consumer.’ Idaho Code § 48-603(17),” the letter continues. “Most other states likewise prohibit making statements to consumers that are false, misleading, or deceptive. Each of us takes our responsibility to protect consumers in our states very seriously.”

The letter also notes that “countries around the world are intervening to protect children against these untested [“transgender”] treatments,” as the international medical consensus has begun to shift away from transgenderism in countries such as the United Kingdom.

Among the attorneys general who signed the letter are Kansas’ Kris Kobach (R-Kan.), Ken Paxton (R-Texas), Dave Yost (R-Ohio), Andrew Bailey (R-Mo.), and Ashley Moody (R-Fla.). The only Republican attorneys general who did not sign the letter are: Treg Taylor (R-Alaska), Todd Rokita (R-Ind.), Russell Coleman (R-Ky.), John Formella (R-N.H.), Gentner Drummond (R-Okla.), Jonathan Skrmetti (R-Tenn.), and Bridget Hill (R-Wyo.).

The AGs’ probe comes at a time when transgenderism has become, for the first time, a top issue in a presidential election. Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump has vowed to reverse all of the Biden-Harris Administration’s pro-transgender policies, while Democratic nominee and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) has long supported these policies, particularly with regards to promoting transgenderism in public schools.
