Three and a half years after the January 6th Capitol protests, the FBI has just arrested retired NASCAR driver Tighe Scott — age 75 — and his son, Jarret Scott, age 48, on charges related to J6.

The father and son pair were arrested in Pennsylvania alongside two other men. Each face two felony charges, along with multiple misdemeanors, including allegedly obstructing and assaulting law enforcement.

Take a look at the breaking news:

The Hill has more details:

Former NASCAR driver Tighe Scott and his son were arrested Wednesday on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the Capitol, the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Tighe Scott, 75, and Jarret Scott, 48, were arrested in Pennsylvania on two felony charges and a few misdemeanors each, according to the office. Tighe Scott was identified to agents as a former NASCAR driver by a witness, according to the charging documents.

The office said the felony charges for both men include obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding specific officers.

Tighe Scott, who was a race car driver in the 1970s and 1980s, allegedly struck riot shields and tried to rip a riot shield out of an officer’s hands while at the Capitol, the office said. The office also said Jarret Scott allegedly held a golf club while pushing and resisting against police shields.

The pair was arrested Wednesday along with Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr., another father-son duo who the office said was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Body-worn camera and publicly available footage identified the four men at the Capitol that day, according to the press release.

ABC News added:

A retired NASCAR driver and his son were arrested Wednesday and charged along with two other Pennsylvania men for allegedly assaulting police during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Tighe Scott, 75, and his son Jarret Scott, 48, face two felony offenses each as well as a multiple misdemeanor offenses for a series of alleged assaults prosecutors say they engaged in outside the Capitol among the pro-Trump mob.

Charging documents show the FBI confirmed Tighe Scott’s identity in part because a witness told agents he was a retired NASCAR driver.

Scott competed in dirt racing events before moving into the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in the late 1970s and early 1980s. While he recorded no career wins in NASCAR, he had multiple top-10 finishes and made several appearances at the Daytona 500, including a sixth place finish in 1979.

The two Scotts were arrested along with another Pennsylvania father and son, Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr., all of whom prosecutors say physically and verbally harassed law enforcement trying to protect the Capitol — using a variety of objects like flagpoles, golf clubs and an “Area Closed” sign to throw or strike against a line of police trying to control the mob.
