An Air National Guard intelligence unit in Massachusetts has been cleared to resume operations next month after they were suspended following the arrest of one of its personnel for leaking classified information, Air Force officials said Friday.

The 102nd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group at Otis Air National Guard Base in Cape Cod had its assignment taken away last year after an internal investigation found a “lack of supervision” and a “culture of complacency” that helped Air Guardsman Jack Texeira share hundreds of classified military documents online.

The 102nd ISRG completed a recertification process mandated by Air Combat Command. The inspection teams evaluated security issues and the overall culture across the 102nd Intelligence Wing.

“The recertification process was authorized after the completion of the secretary of the Air Force and Air Combat Command Inspector General reinspection of the 102nd Intelligence Wing and after a new organizational structure was implemented to enhance oversight of ISRG operations,” Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said in a statement.

This past March, Air Guardsman Teixeira, 22, pleaded guilty to six counts of retaining and transmitting classified information on the Discord social media platform. Federal prosecutors said the scheme began in 2022 and continued until his arrest in April 2023.

“Mr. Teixeira exploited his Top Secret security clearance to share our nation’s secrets on a social media platform. He violated his oath to ‘preserve,  protect and defend,’ and in doing so he undermined our national security and risked the safety of Americans serving overseas and our allies,” Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy said following the guilty plea.
