Pop superstar Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president after the vice president’s performance in Tuesday night’s presidential debate.

To the surprise of few, Ms. Swift said she “will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”

“I think she is a steady-handed gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in the country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” she said.

She said she was persuaded after having “watched the debate tonight” and describing the importance of doing research on the candidates.

Ms. Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Ms. Swift wrote on her Instagram account in a post that quickly went viral on social media in the hour after the debate ended.

Ms. Swift also cited abortion and other culture-war issues as part of her reasoning.

“I was so hearted and impressed by her selection of running mate [Tim Walz] who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and the woman’s right to her own body for decades,” she wrote.

The singer also said she couldn’t shake off a recent incident of former President Donald Trump sharing a photo of “Swifties for Trump” that included some computer-altered imagery and a parody image of Ms. Swift “enduring” the Republican nominee.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,“ she said.

Unlike some performers, she stopped short of saying her fans should vote for Ms. Harris or weren’t really her fans if they don’t.

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote.

Ms. Swift took a shot at Republican vice-presidential nominee J.D. Vance on her way out, signing her post “Taylor Swift / Childless Cat Lady.”
