Florida authorities are searching for a gunman who shot three women during an argument over the election in Miami early Wednesday, leaving one of the victims in critical condition.
Miami Police said a group of people were drinking when they started arguing about the election at an apartment complex.
Someone then walked to a vehicle, pulled out a gun, and began shooting, WFOR reported.
The victims were all women in their late 20s to early 30s, according to police.
One of the women was hospitalized in critical condition with an injury to her stomach, while the other two were in stable condition.
“This is something that is of concern to us,” Miami Police spokesman Mike Vega said. “There is no place for violence, especially over a difference of opinion in politics.”
Suly Ashe, who lives in the neighborhood, told WFOR she heard gunshots ring out around 12:30 a.m.
“I heard somebody screaming and didn’t want to open the door and put myself at risk. It sounded like four shots,” she said. “It is horrible. Whoever is president now is president for all of us, whether we are Democrat or Republican. It doesn’t matter. It’s our country. It’s very sad that this happened.”
Investigators are still working to name a suspect.
No arrests have been made.
“This is not acceptable. We have to handle our differences and respect each other’s beliefs. We need to either reach an agreement or simply avoid such topics,” Vega said.
