President Joe Biden’s speech at Morehouse College was a horrible one. It was full of falsehoods and typically hateful. But there was one good part of Biden’s speech: It was an implicit endorsement of all-male education.

Among the dogmas of the news media and the American Left is that all-male spaces are both pointless and offensive.

The opponents of single-sex education don’t generally make their case explicitly. They just sort of cry “discrimination,” as if that counted as an argument.

The premises of this view, typically unstated, are the following:

• All discrimination is harmful.
• Men and boys are not meaningfully different from women and girls.
• Men and boys, in all cases, are the privileged sex.
• If boys are distracted by girls, they should just get over it.

These premises are all obviously faulty.

• Almost really no one believes all discrimination is harmful. We discriminate all the time. We discriminate if we seek balance in a workplace or a team. If you believe in diversity, you believe in discrimination. If you are a woman seeking a female roommate, you discriminate.
• Men and boys are obviously meaningfully different from women and girls, especially in how they learn. I wrote last year about studies into how male and female students learn and perform differently in different settings — even temperatures!
• In American education today, men and boys are the underclass. Former Brookings Institution scholar Richard Reeves has done a ton of research on this. A clear majority of college graduates every year are now women, as are a majority of those getting master’s degrees.
• Sexual tension is present everywhere. Grown adults can and should get over it, but for teenagers, it takes more effort to suppress their animal instincts. That effort is effort not directly expended on learning.

Expect the major news media to continue their assaults on single-sex schools. But we should ask them, for a change, to defend their position.
