Former President Donald Trump said if Jesus Christ were counting ballots, he would win California in November.

“Democrats play a different game. And you have ballot harvesting, but you also have people getting ballots,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with Phil McGraw, the TV psychologist who goes by Dr. Phil. “I mean, in California, you have people getting seven ballots.”

The GOP nominee added, “If Jesus Christ came down and was the vote counter, I would win California, OK? In other words, if we had an honest vote counter, a really honest vote counter — I do great with Hispanics, great, I mean at a level no Republican has ever done. But if we had an honest vote counter, I would win California.”

The former president called California a “very dishonest” state because the ballots are mail-in.

“I go around California, they have Trump signs all over the place,” he said.

California has been dominated by Democrats in state offices since the influx of foreigners kicked into high gear after the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. The last Republican presidential candidate to win the state was George H.W. Bush in 1988. President Biden won the state in 2020 by nearly 30 points.

The Harris-Walz campaign responded by saying, “As Donald Trump’s friend Dr. Phil says, ‘You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge.’”

“Donald Trump doesn’t acknowledge that his overturning Roe v. Wade put women’s lives in danger. He doesn’t acknowledge that he left office with the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover,” spokeswoman Sarafina Chitika said in a statement Tuesday.

“And he still doesn’t acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election four years ago — despite the violent insurrection launched in his name,” she said. “While Donald Trump refuses to acknowledge the facts, voters know Vice President Harris is the candidate to lead us into the future.”
