Eva Edl escaped the horrors of a Yugoslavian concentration camp in her youth only to be imprisoned by forces in the United States as she approached her 90th birthday.
The pro-life advocate was one of several peaceful demonstrators arrested on what critics say are trumped-up charges based on a controversial federal statute.
According to the Daily Wire:
Utah Senator Mike Lee (R) ripped into the Biden-Harris administration on Tuesday over the prosecution and conviction of 89-year-old pro-life activist Eva Edl.
Lee was reacting to the news that Edl and six other pro-life activists were convicted in federal court in Detroit late Tuesday morning of charges brought against them by the Biden administration accusing them of conspiracy against rights and violating the FACE Act. They could now be sentenced to over a decade in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines upon sentencing.
Edl, a devout Christian, was rounded up as a child and forced into a concentration camp by the forces of Yugoslavian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito in the aftermath of World War II. She later immigrated to the United States and became very active in pro-life activism across the country.

Lee was far from the only prominent figure who expressed outrage over the development.

Lee and Roy have teamed up to introduce legislation that would repeal the FACE Act.
According to a press release from Lee’s office:
Of the bill, Senator Lee said, “Our Constitution reserved general police power to the states. Congress infringed on the states’ police power when they passed the FACE Act. The Biden DOJ has weaponized this constitutionally suspect law against pro-life sidewalk counselors while failing to protect pregnancy centers and churches from violent attacks. It’s time to repeal the FACE Act.”
Of the bill, Representative Roy said, “Free Americans should never live in fear of their government targeting them because of their beliefs. Yet, Biden’s Department of Justice has brazenly weaponized the FACE Act against normal, everyday Americans across the political spectrum, simply because they are pro-life. Our Constitution separates power between the federal government and the states for a reason, and we ignore that safeguard at our own peril.
The FACE Act is an unconstitutional federal takeover of state police powers; it must be repealed.”
