On its first night (at least), the Democratic National Convention was all about . . . the Republican nominee, far more than any actual issue — especially not the ones the voters care about.
Speaker after speaker went after Donald Trump, with a dozen-dozen mentions of his name, vastly more than anyone brought up the economy, the border or (perish the thought!) inflation.
It’s all about anger at their opponent, not offering a better (or any!) vision for the country.
Of course, Kamala Harris’ vision — and her entire party’s — is all about what the current president has delivered: ever more government spending to benefit Democrats’ dreams . . . and special interests.
Resulting, of course, in killer inflation and a sluggish economy.
That is: Democrats are the incumbent party, but they’re going all-out to pretend they’re not.
No wonder they “accidentally” let Monday night run long so that President Biden didn’t take the stage ’til nearly midnight Eastern Time.
Otherwise, his speech angrily defending his record (and generously noting how Harris helped him achieve it) might’ve reminded too many viewers of what a disaster the Biden-Harris years have been.
What will the rest of the DNC offer?
Vague encomiums to Harris’ supposed amazing abilities — with no mention of anything she’s actually done, certainly in this administration.
A concerted effort to suggest a “handing of the torch” to her from . . . Barack Obama, as if he were the last Democratic president.
Endless platitudes about how Dems stand with the working man, the middle class etc. etc.
And a constant refrain of “Orange Man Bad” because that’s the only real message Democrats have left.
