The Georgia State Election Board passed a rule on Monday to give local election officials more power to investigate ballot counts before certifying the results.

“Georgia State Election Board votes 3-2 to approve new rule REQUIRING the reconciliation of the total number of votes with the total number of unique voter ID numbers,” True the Vote stated.

“They’re also required to investigate any discrepancies BEFORE certification and report facts of FRAUD to the District Attorney! GA is establishing a common sense audit trail because GA citizens demanded it – way to go GA!” it added.

Per CNN:

The “Rule for Reconciliation Prior to Certification” will allow for a hand recount of votes to ensure “the total number of ballots cast” does not exceed “the total number of persons who voted,” according to the language of the rule.

County election officials will now be allowed to investigate any possible discrepancies.

The vote was carried 3 to 2 by the five-member board.

The proposal was submitted by Salleigh Grubbs, the chair of the Cobb County Republicans, who told CNN she believes her county’s 2020 presidential election results were inaccurate without any providing any direct evidence for her claims. She denies that the rule is about trying to delay certification of the 2024 results.

“For each precinct, the board members shall compare the total number of ballots cast to the total number of unique voter ID numbers. In any precinct in which the number of ballots exceeds the number of unique voters, the Board shall determine the method of voting in which the discrepancy exists. The Board shall investigate the discrepancy and no votes shall be counted from that precinct until the results of the investigation are presented to the Board as required in GA Code$ 21-2-493(b).”

“Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has strongly criticized these last-minute rule changes, warning that they could undermine confidence in the election system,” FOX 5 Atlanta noted.

The decision was made on the state’s first day of absentee voting.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has expressed concern that these changes could lead to chaos on election night, a sentiment echoed by many Democrats.

Earlier this year, three pro-Trump Republicans, who have cast doubt on the 2020 election results, were appointed to the board. Former President Trump referred to the trio as his “pitbulls fighting for honesty.”

“We are already witnessing at least three board members on the Georgia State Election Board behind these rule changes showing partisan favor and putting their own goals before all Georgians,” Burns added.

Two of those Trump-approved members spoke in favor of the rule changes in the meeting.

“These are all very important things that we want our boards to review and expect them to review before they certify an election,” said Janice Johnston, a State Election Board member who has expressed skepticism about the 2020 results.

Janelle King, another board member aligned with the former president, said, “It is an important step to find some form of uniformity and knowledge that we do hear some of the other concerns.”
