Police in Northern California said a father dove into a river Sunday to save his son, and then never resurfaced.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said the father first jumped into the American River at about 11:40 a.m. to help his struggling son.
Another man, who wasn’t part of the family, also dove in as well to help the boy. He was able to pull the child to safety, while the father remained submerged, the sheriff’s office said.
“The child was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. The father went under and has not been found,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our dive team responded and worked to locate the man. At this point, he has not been found.”
