We may have come over on different boats, but we are all in the same boat now. Write that down. There’s gonna be a test later. My friend, Kent Franks addressed this today in his Article Take This Job and Shove It. Donald Trump mounted the stage yesterday to address a gathering of black reporters and other interested parties in the time-honored political belief that not only do black people all look alike, it only goes to follow that they also all vote alike. Instead of cementing a solid block of support he opened a big ol’ box of crackers. Guess there ain’t many black folk on Madison Avenue.

Trump’s gaffes were so plentiful it looked like a comic routine. He stepped on his tongue and walked it dry. Telling the group that he’d suddenly discovered Harris was black some time ago when she shape shifted from Sacagawea to Shirley Chisholm.

So, what did he do next. Why, blame it on the Mexicans. A time honored Texas tradition. But I see how that might work. Picture of some Indian chick, add the right filter, Aunt Jemima! Sorry about that. Not politically correct. Too black. Click click click. There! Josephine Baker! Perfect. You have to be careful about these things. But I, myself think Harris looks more like an African than an Apache. And how many Apaches vote anyway. Either for Trump or the black white woman. Ya Ta Hey White Eyes!

But, if you look at her, Harris has that Michelle Obama look down pretty tight. Anyway, Trump continued to cement his place in history with the late, great George Wallace with such sterling remarks as the Mexicans are taking black jobs. This naturally drew the question as to just what is a “black job?” Maybe on Amos and Andy where Alvin Childress, the taxi driver Amos had the top end “black job” while such as Tim Moore’s Kingfish was more along the lines of what was to be expected for career choices in “black jobs.”

But by then Trump was fighting for life as the crowd was thinking, “WHITE BOOOOOY!” The whole dog and pony show adjourned early, rushing out the back door and onto a more favorable environment. None of the reporters shot at him.

Now, being a writer, and of the Caucasian Persuasion myself I sympathize with my fellow man. There is a big difference between permanent residency and photo op. What happened to “American jobs. Ain’t the Mexicans stealing them too? And even bringing up her ethnicity. Is it to be implied that blacks are below Indians or vice versa? If he met with a tribal council would he smoke a peace pipe with them? And what lasting effect will yesterday’s fiasco have at the poles?

In a word, nothing! I hate to be the first one to tell you but Step And Fetchit died a long time ago. Black Americans are just like white Americans. They vote for the candidate that promises and delivers on the same. We do have cultural differences but that’s a personal pride thing. When asked if he supported Black History Month Morgan Freeman answered, “No!” He reasoned that Black History is American History and to separate it from the same is a form of racism in and of itself.

Candidates play us like a fiddle. Push all the buttons, run all the algorithms and in the final analysis it turns out to be the same old crackers. Saltines or Ritz. The soup will be the same. Bon Appetit!
