Hollywood celebrities and musicians will turn out for the Democratic National Convention next week in Chicago, where Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will accept their party’s respective nominations.
Democrats, and their allied organizations are hosting more than 100 events, with a lineup of confirmed Hollywood headliners.
This includes talk-show host Jon Stewart, actor and singer Billy Porter, musician Joan Jett; Octavia Spencer, who won an Academy Award for her performance in “The Help”; “Veep” actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and record producer and DJ D-Nice.
On Monday night, Chad Michaels, Silky Nutmeg Ganache and Jackie Cox, who star in “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” are expected to perform at the Equality PAC party.
On the same night, at the House of Blues, Roy Wood Jr. will host a “Tipping Point States” party with musicians from Wisconsin and Arizona, including the Mesa-based band Jimmy Eat World, and Milwaukee’s DJ Shawna.
Atlanta-based rapper Lil Jon will appear at a Georgia Democratic-hosted party at Prysm, a Chicago nightclub.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker secured a converted Morton Salt factory on the Chicago River to be the location of the concert venue, where Tuesday night, singer, songwriter and Democratic activist John Legend is expected to perform.
The Creative Coalition, the nonprofit, nonpartisan social and public advocacy organization of the arts and entertainment community, is hosting several celebrity-filled events at the convention.
The coalition’s convention delegation includes “Madam Secretary” actor Tim Daly, “Orange Is the New Black” actress Uzo Aduba, “Abbott Elementary” actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, “Community” actress Yvette Nicole Brown, “Modern Family” actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, “Freaks and Geeks” actress Busy Philipps, “Two and a Half Men” actor Jon Cryer, “Arrested Development” actor David Cross, actress Yolonda Ross of “The Chi,” “Young Sheldon” actor Iain Armitage, actor Chris Witaske of “The Bear” and actress Danai Gurira of “The Walking Dead” and “Black Panther.”
According to the Democratic National Committee, 50,000 visitors are expected to arrive in the Windy City, including 5,000 delegates and alternates and 15,000 members of the media.
