The Secret Service (USSS) has created and approved a new plan for security, allowing Trump to once again hold outdoor events. A Secret Service official confirmed to the Washington Post that there will be bulletproof glass shields on stage to protect Trump after the July 13 attempted assassination at his Butler, PA rally.
Following the shooting, in which Trump was narrowly grazed by a bullet on stage, USSS urged Trump’s team to host these rallies and events indoors. He has not appeared at an outdoor event since the Butler rally.
The move to erect bulletproof glass around Trump is a major enhancement usually provided for presidents and vice presidents when deemed necessary. "Former presidents and candidates don’t normally get bulletproof glass or support from DoD," the official said. "This glass needs to be brought in on trucks and vans."
To be prepared, the USSS has begun storing this ballistic glass in various locations across the country so that it can be accessed more easily for Trump campaign events. Acting USSS head Ronald Rowe finalized the plans after taking over for disgraced USSS director Kimberly Cheatle.
The USSS official added that other technical security assets that are not normally provided for presidential candidates will be used. The official did not describe what tools would be used.
Trump aides told the outlet that the former president wants to do more outdoor rallies again, including one in Butler, but he reportedly made it clear that he did not want to be on stage outside again without the protective glass.
