Climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested on Saturday after attending a Gaza protest next to the Eurovision arena.  Thunberg could be seen being detained by police amid the protests going on against Israel. The contest included an Israeli singer, though a Swedish non-binary singer singing an anthem about being non-binary won the final.

According to the Washington Examiner, she was among the protesters on the third day of demonstrations against the Israeli singer, Eden Golan, who performed the song "Hurricane" for the final round of competition.  

This year's is the 68th Eurovision song contest and took place at the Malmo Arena in Sweden.  

On Friday, Thunberg wrote in a post online, “Yesterday we were tens of thousands people flooding the streets of Malmo." 

“We will not accept that a country currently committing genocide is allowed a platform to art wash themselves. The world cannot remain silent in a genocide. Everyone who can must use their voice and speak up against Israel’s crimes and occupation.” 

Thunberg has been arrested several times before this while being involved in protests after the October 7 attacks on Israel. Earlier in the week, Thunberg was seen chanting the slogan "From the river to the sea," during the Gaza protest outside the Eurovision contest. The controversial slogan calls for the eradication of Israel and the replacing of it with a Palestinian state.

“People from all over Sweden are gathering in Malmo this week, where Eurovision is taking place, to protest against Israel’s participation in the competition,” she said, in protest of the Jewish singer participating. 

“Yesterday we were tens of thousands of people flooding the streets of Malmo. We will not accept that a country currently committing genocide is allowed a platform to art wash themselves,” she added at the time.
