A new NPR/PBS/Marist poll found that a majority of independent voters believe that President Biden’s re-election will “weaken our Democracy.”

Voters were asked to choose between four options when asked about the prospect of a second Biden term, including “strengthen our democracy,” “weaken our democracy” or make no difference at all.

Overall, 46 percent of respondents believe that President Biden’s re-election will “weaken our democracy.” This was slightly lower than former President Donald Trump, as 48 percent of overall respondents said the same of a potential second term for the 45th president. Just 24 percent of overall respondents believe that Biden’s re-election will “strengthen our democracy.”

While Biden slightly outperformed Trump on the question, the president found himself underwater with independent voters. In total, an astonishing 53 percent of intendent voters believe that a second term for Biden will weaken the nation’s democracy. Just 24 percent believe the prospect would strengthen Democrat, while an additional 22 percent said it would make no difference.

The results have irritated a number of Democrats, as both the party and the Biden campaign have attempted to portray Trump as a dictator. This line of attack has continued despite the fact that the Biden DOJ, Democrat attorneys general and far-left district attorneys have charged their leading presidential rival with 91 felonies, have indicted lawyers, lawmakers and constitutionally protected alternate electors, and continue to hunt down Trump supporters for trespassing in a building on January 6.

“I find it shocking, honestly. I can’t, you know, make sense of that number,” said MSNBC contributor Susan Del Percio in response to the poll. “I wish I could. I wish I had some really great insight to it. But I don’t know if it’s an outlier or not because the other numbers with independents and Biden are going in the right direction.”

Despite Del Perico’s claims, the NPR/PBS/Marist survey produced several troubling numbers for President Biden.

Just 32 percent of independent respondents said they have a “favorable view” of President Biden, while 63 percent of independent voters expressed a negative opinion. The president fared much the same when respondents were asked about overall job performance, as just 33 percent expressed satisfaction.
