The Olympics and gullible Christians:

A recent article on the demonic sacrilege at Paris had this title: “The Paris Olympics’ Opening Ceremony Perfectly Captures the Decay of the West”. I will speak to that piece in a moment. But I could easily title my article, “The Paris Olympics’ Opening Ceremony Perfectly Captures the Decay of the Church”.

That is because the reactions I and other Christians have witnessed from far too many folks calling themselves Christians has been quite shocking to be frank. So many have been fully siding with those pushing this demonic evil while attacking us for daring to point out what is actually happening.

As to the article I referred to above – written by Hayden Daniel – here is part of it:

After global backlash, Olympic officials have scrambled to gaslight the audience, insisting that any similarity to “The Last Supper” was “completely unintentional” and that “there was never any intention to show disrespect towards any religious group or belief.”

Not only are those excuses obviously false to anyone with even a passing familiarity with Christian symbolism and LGBT activists’ obsession with subverting it, they’re undermined by the fact that other parts of the ceremony featured the same wanton disregard for morality.

To complete the vulgarity, the performance cut between a parade and three people (two men and a woman) heading upstairs to engage in a ménage à trois. Once inside an apartment, they begin to indulge in their appetites before one of them shuts the door on the audience. Thankfully they stopped there!

As my colleague John Davidson pointed out, “Why did the organizers do this? Put bluntly, they did it because they hate Jesus Christ and Christianity, which they consider their most dangerous enemy. They are quite open about this now.”

That blasphemous display represented a naked expression of the power they now hold over Western culture. They know they can mock the very cornerstone of our entire civilization in front of an audience of tens of millions and they’ll receive applause for doing so.

“The best the queer Paris Olympics ‘artistic director’ and sex performers could come up with is badly deforming others’ artistic triumphs. They didn’t think up their own world, symbols, and referents, they just sabotaged others’ then pretended what any three-year-old can do is brilliant,” my colleague Joy Pullmann wrote.

They can’t do anything but mock and deface and corrupt that which is sacred, meaningful, and beautiful. They’re utterly incapable of creating anything of worth because of their own twisted and unnatural view of the world. So in their self-loathing they have to tear everything else down in order to free themselves from reality and morality. https://thefederalist.com/2024/07/29/the-paris-olympics-opening-ceremony-perfectly-captures-the-decay-of-the-west/

Before proceeding to comment on all this, let me offer a few paragraphs from a new Rod Dreher piece:

These elites would like everyone to forget what a global television audience saw last Friday: a filthy mockery of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, featuring drag queens as the disciples, and Barbara Butch, an obese lesbian DJ, as Our Lord.

“Oh yes! Oh yes! The New Gay Testament!” Butch later messaged on Instagram. Underscoring the point, that tableau vivant was titled, in punning French, La Cène Sur Un Scène Sur La Seine – that is, The Last Supper Staged On The Seine.

The satanic parody feast featured as its blasphemous Eucharist a priapic Smurf meant to represent Dionysius—perhaps a sneering, obscene reference to St. Denis (a Gallicized version of “Dionysius”), the third-century martyr who is a patron saint of Paris. According to a tumescent Associated Press account of the event, the Greek god of wine pointed to his penis and sang, in French, “Where to hide a revolver when you’re completely naked?”

Thomas Jolly, the gay French theatrical director who conceived this vulgar abomination, said, “My wish isn’t to be subversive, nor to mock or to shock. Most of all, I wanted to send a message of love, a message of inclusion and not at all to divide.” There are people stupid enough to believe that….

Symbolism matters. National symbols concentrate and proclaim what a nation thinks of itself, and how it wants other nations to think of it. Speaking on Saturday of the Olympics opening ceremony debacle the night before, Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán noted archly, “At the end of the day, every nation has the right to show its true colors; that’s what we saw.”…

What happened on Friday night in Paris was a globally televised dismantling and mockery of one of the core symbols of Western civilization, as a manifestation of France’s national character. The etymological opposite of “symbolic” is “diabolic.” Draw your own conclusions. But do not miss the symbolism here, when, hours after the opening ceremony, the 18th arrondissement of Paris lost electrical power. The only thing left illuminated was the Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur, built in the 19th century in reparation for the crimes of the Revolution. The light shines in the darkness, and even in Paris, the darkness did not overcome it. https://europeanconservative.com/articles/commentary/a-civilizational-suicide-note-on-the-seine/

Gullible believers

My biggest beef is with all the clueless and undiscerning Christians out there. I see this happening so often: A diabolical and vile public attack on Christ and Christianity happens, and we get some Christians who make excuses for it and in effect stand up to defend these attacks.

Now more than ever the words of John Calvin need to be heeded: “A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.” The person and work of Christ was wilfully under attack in Paris, yet too many Christians think it is ‘no big deal’ and we should just ‘move on’. No wonder why the church keeps losing in the West.

And then I am told that there is a time and a place to speak up and speak out. Sure, but if this diabolical and putrid attack on Christ and his ministry is not a time to speak up, then I don’t know when it will be. Bonhoeffer was also given such advice about not rocking the boat and not speaking out. Thankfully he ignored it. I will also ignore such advice.

Too many believers are saying we should just ignore what happened in Paris, just chill out, don’t make waves, don’t voice any concerns, etc. Sorry, but if this satanic assault on our Lord is not worth voicing concerns about, then nothing will be. It reminds me of the words of Dorothy Sayers:

“In the world it is called Tolerance, but in hell it is called Despair, the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.”

And it is not just in the world but in the church. So many folks calling themselves Christian do not seem to give a rip about much of anything, including this satanic assault on our Lord Jesus Christ. It means nothing to them. And worse yet, too many of these people actually seek to defend the IOC and those responsible here.

A quote from Henry Smith, a Puritan preacher (1560-1591?) is so very relevant here: “A sin is two sins when it is defended.” Why it is that some Christians have decided to believe, affirm, support and defend everything the pagans, homosexuals, and atheists have been saying about this, while doubting, criticizing and attacking biblical Christians? Why do they seem to choose to side with enemies of Christ against real deal Christians?

I have encountered so many of these folks. They seem so gullible and naïve. They are bending over backwards to believe and accept every single thing the IOC says, all the while doubting, questioning and resisting what Bible-believing Christians are saying. They seem determined to give the Christophobes and misotheists every benefit of the doubt while challenging and disbelieving everything a fellow Christian says.

Sure, there is a place to check things out and try to ascertain what is true. But for heaven’s sake, when the IOC folks TELL us what we all knew to be the case, but these Christians STILL refuse to believe us, then they have some real issues.

I am starting to realize that far too many Christians really do not seem to believe that there is such a thing as evil, or even sin. They are so consumed and swamped by secular humanism, that they will actually attack other Christians who seek to champion and affirm the righteousness and holiness of God.

Many Christians need to be informed that there is nothing virtuous or Christlike in being naive, ignorant, gullible and clueless about the reality of sin and evil. And we need to decide where we will stand. So many biblical passages come to mind here. Psalm 1:1 is certainly relevant:

“Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;”

As David asked those around him, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26). Given what I have heard from various Christians of late, I can see why the Psalmist had to ask this question: “Who will stand with me against those who do evil?” (Psalm 94:16).

And it is tempting to paraphrase Martin Niemoller here: ‘In Paris they came first for the Christians, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Christian. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. … Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.’

What this week has demonstrated to me is that there are at least two sorts of Christians: those who side with a righteous and holy God, and those who make cheap excuses for sin and depravity. Christians, it is time to stop playing games: “Choose you this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15)

And we need to remind ourselves of some other basic biblical truths here. This is a good one to start with: “What fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14) When these folks side with Christ-haters and satanic immorality while standing against fellow Christians, it is a real worry.

Closing thoughts:

And don’t get me started on the Australian rugby player wearing a rainbow helmet that was approved by the IOC, but a Brazilian surfer being banned for having a picture of Jesus on his surfboard! Also, with female athletes being assaulted at the Olympics by men pretending to be women, this may not be my final word on Paris!
