The Selective Service System, the federal agency responsible for registering Americans for a military draft, faces extreme scrutiny for reposting an X post that suggested the United States is becoming Nazi Germany.
The X post, which reportedly remained on the Selective Service System’s X account page for over an hour, said, “For all you stupid f**** out there that still believe military service will be voluntary. Remember Germany 1936.”
X account ‘SloJoe,’ which has a profile picture featuring the late general and secretary of state Colin Powell, initially made the post.

“Selective Service System reposted message on same day Donald Trump was declared election winner,” Fox News noted.
“What’s going on with the @SSS_gov (Selective Service) X account?” CBS News producer Jim LaPorta commented.

“This was the first post I had ever seen from the SSS. And for them to repost my reply is unreal,” SloJoe said.

From the New York Post:
The post appears to be referring to Adolf Hitler’s decision to reintroduce military conscription in Nazi Germany, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, prior to his occupation of the Rhineland in 1936.
Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, boosted comparisons of President-elect Donald Trump and Hitler in the final weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign.
The Selective Service System did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
The reposted tweet remained on the SSS’s X account for over an hour, even after it was flagged by a CBS News reporter and other users on the social media platform.
“Yesterday an inappropriate X post related to a mandatory draft was reposted on the Selective Service Agency’s X account. We are investigating this incident to determine how this happened and are proactively taking steps to prevent this from happening in the future,” the Selective Service stated.
“The reposted content was removed when we became aware of it. The content of the repost in no way reflects the views of the Selective Service System,” it added.

Per Fox News:
In the final days of the election, Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz repeated Hillary Clinton’s attack that Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City mirrored a 1930s Nazi event.
The post reportedly shared by the Selective Service System appears to reference Hitler’s decision in March 1935 to reintroduce military conscription in Germany, in a move the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum says defied the Treaty of Versailles.
The following year, Hitler “ordered the German armed forces (Wehrmacht) into the demilitarized Rhineland” region of the country, according to the Museum.
The Selective Service System says on its website, “While there is currently no draft, registration with the Selective Service System is the most publicly visible program during peacetime that ensures operational readiness in a fair and equitable manner. If authorized by the President and Congress, our Agency would rapidly provide personnel to the Department of Defense while at the same time providing an Alternative Service Program for conscientious objectors.
“Federal Law requires nearly all male U.S. citizens and male immigrants, 18 through 25, register with Selective Service,” it adds.
