Former Bill Clinton adviser James Carville went out of his way to sound the alarm and warn his fellow Democrats about the dangers of keeping Joe Biden as the Party’s nominee.
Joe Biden’s departure should have eased Carville’s concerns about the November election.
But James Carville just gave Democrats a brutal reality check about their enthusiasm for Kamala Harris.
Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be well on her way to being crowned as Democrats’ Presidential nominee at next month’s Democrat National Convention in Chicago.
Within 24 hours of President Joe Biden’s withdrawal announcement, Harris claimed that she had already obtained the support of enough delegates – aka Democrat elites – to secure the Democrat nomination at the convention.
Several Democrat officials and big-money donors also announced their support for Kamala Harris, including former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary.
On Friday, Harris got the endorsement she had been hoping to get when former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, announced they were endorsing Harris as the Democrats’ nominee.
“We agree with President Biden,” the Obamas wrote in a statement, before adding that “choosing Kamala was one of the best decisions he’s made.”
“She has the resume to prove it,” they claimed.
Biden’s departure and Harris’ ascension seems to have breathed new life into the Democrat Party.
“After Biden stepped aside under pressure and Vice President Kamala Harris rapidly ascended to become the presumptive nominee, many Democrats had a noticeable honeymoon season over their new candidate,” Fox News reported.
But one top Democrat strategist is warning the Democrats not to get too “giddy” too early.
During an appearance on MSNBC, James Carville rained on the Democrats’ parade.
Carville is concerned that the momentum jump was mostly due to the honeymoon season of a new candidate and warned Democrats not to celebrate too early.
“I have to be the skunk at the garden party,” Carville said. “This is too triumphalist, OK?”
“Everybody’s giddy,” he continued. “I look at the coverage and it’s great.”
However, Carville predicted that an “icepick” was coming for Kamala Harris’ record and told Democrats to “get ready, they’re coming.”
“Everybody should feel good and liberated and everything else,” Carville said. “But if we don’t win the election, we haven’t done anything,” he continued, before adding that “this kind of giddy elation is not going to be very helpful much longer ’cause that’s not what we’re going to be faced with.”
Carville advised Harris’ campaign to get a “really good cutman in the corner because she’s getting ready to get cut.”
Of course, Carville’s opinions are not something Democrats take lightly.
He was the mastermind behind Bill Clinton’s victory in 1992 and is famous for saying, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
And now he’s warning Democrats not to pop the cork on the champagne too soon.
