A Paris drag queen — who goes by the name Nicky Doll — “loves” people being outraged by what’s been called a blasphemous parody of The Last Supper during the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony.

Doll — born Karl Sanchez — was one of the drag queen torch bearers for the summer Olympics and performed in The Last Supper parody which had an obese woman wearing an aureole as Jesus surrounded by drag queens as the Apostles, a decapitated head representing Marie Antoinette of the French Revolution, and drag queens dancing around children.

“The opening ceremony did ruffle some feathers … and I LOVE it,” Doll wrote on his Instagram Stories.”You know why? Because the Olympics are the biggest stage in the world and us queer people have always been the audience of other people’s life and achievement and it is time that we are welcome in the space.”

“It was my absolute honor to perform in front of billions of people around the world, and celebrate our Olympians,” Doll’s post continued. “And remember, to the ones that had their feathers ruffled seeing queerness on their screen: WE AIN’T GOING NOWHERE.”

Following the backlash against the Olympics over the anti-Christian scene, Anne Descamps, a spokesperson for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games told a press conference, “If people have taken any offense we are really sorry.”

“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. (The opening ceremony) tried to celebrate community tolerance,” Descamps told reporters, via Reuters. “We believe this ambition was achieved.”

NFL kicker Harrison Butker was one of the many people who blasted the Olympics for the scene in the opening ceremony, as previously reported.

“This is crazy,” Butker wrote on social media, along with a Bible quote.

He quoted scripture on X, writing, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting.”

Thomas Jolly, creative director of the opening ceremony depictions, had this to say about his vision. “The extraordinary thing is that everyone in France and the rest of the world has an idea of what France is all about. And I want to play with that, that’s where I want to start from – breaking down clichés, because clichés come along other things,” Jolly said, according to the Olympics website.

“Above all, I want this ceremony to include everyone. We must all celebrate this diversity,” he added.
