JUST IN: Biden References Jan 6 In Oval Office Address Following Trump Rally Shooting

President Biden referenced the January 6 Capitol protests and the kidnapping plot against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer — a plot that included 12 FBI informants — in his Oval Office address following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Yesterday’s shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania calls on all of us to take a step back. Take stock of where we are, how we go forward from here. Thankfully, former Trump is not seriously injured. I spoke to him last night. I’m grateful he’s doing well, and Jill and I keep him and his family in our prayers,” Biden began in his Oval Office address.

The president then paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter and father of two who died while shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire. “We also extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victims who was killed. Corey was a husband, a father, a volunteer firefighter, a hero, sheltering his family from those bullets. We should all hold his family and all those injured in our prayers.”

Biden cited the latest updates from the FBI and U.S. Secret Service by stating that a motive for the shooter, as well as additional details surrounding the planning and execution of the attack, has not yet been determined.

The shooter — Thomas Matthew Crooks — appears to have been registered to vote as a Republican, though he also donated to the progressive fundraising entity ActBlue. Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers after firing no more than 10 shots at former President Trump from roughly 130 yards away. It is believed that a local police officer attempted to stop the gunman just before shots rang out, prompting him to rush the shot.

In his Oval Office address to the nation, Biden went on to reference the January 6 Capitol protests, the Whitmer kidnapping plot, and the radical pro-nudity activist who attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer. He did not reference the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who was nearly killed by a Bernie Sanders supporter at the Congressional baseball game in 2017. Instead, the president claimed that members of Congress from “both parties” have been shot or targeted.

Violence has never been the answer. Whether it’s with members of Congress of both parties being targeted and shot, or a violent mob attacking the Capitol on January 6th, or a brutal attack on the spouse of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, or information and intimidation on election officials, or the kidnapping plot against the sitting governor, or an attempted assassination on Donald Trump. There is no place in America for this kind of violence, for any violence ever. Period. No exceptions,” Biden said.

“We can’t allow this violence to be normalized. You know, the political record in this country has gotten very heated. It’s time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that. Yes, we have deeply felt strong disagreements. The stakes in this election are enormously high.”

The commander-in-chief went on to argue that the upcoming presidential election will “shape the future of America and the world for decades to come.”

“I believe that with my soul,” Biden said. “It’s part of human nature. But politics must never be a literal battlefield, and God forbid, a killing field. I believe politics ought to be an arena for peaceful debate, to pursue justice, to make decisions guided by the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. to make decisions guided by the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. We stand for an America, not of extremism and fury, but of decency and grace.”

Former President Trump was released from a Pittsburgh area hospital last night after being treated for a wound to his ear. Slowed down video shows the moment Trump turned his head just a fraction of a second before impact, causing the bullet to graze his ear.

The presidential frontrunner has already made his way to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, where he is set to accept the party’s nomination for president. Trump did concede that he considered pushing his trip to Milwaukee back a couple days, though he ultimately decided that he, “cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else.”

Trump then announced that he was on his way to Milwaukee and was seen landing in the city a few hours later.
