Speaker Mike Johnson recently took to Twitter to promote a new bill that would strengthen protections against noncitizens illegally voting in federal elections. Called the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility), the proposed legislation would require state election officials to require proof of citizenship before distributing voter registration forms. He received some unexpected love for his post from Elon Musk, who weighed in saying that anyone who opposes this legislation is a TRAITOR. He then rhetorically asked what the penalty for treason is. This has the usual suspects in the legacy media up in arms, claiming that Musk is calling for illegal migrants to be killed or something. As the election approaches, the hyperbole race is truly getting up to a full head of steam. (Fox Business)

Elon Musk weighed in on a bill proposed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., that aims to ensure only American citizens can vote in federal elections, saying those who oppose the measure are "TRAITORS," while rhetorically asking what the punishment for treason is in the U.S.
Johnson unveiled the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, originally pushed by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, at a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, earlier this year.
Leading up to the July Fourth week-long recess, Johnson was circulating a memo within the House GOP conference, arguing why the bill is necessary.
There is plenty of irony to go around in this story. Elon Musk is an immigrant himself, but his family did it the correct way, applying to come here and going through the naturalization process. He didn't come here looking for a handout. He did just the opposite, creating multiple corporations and countless jobs while expanding the limits of our technological capabilities. He used to be a popular figure on both sides of the political aisle until he started talking about the need to ensure free speech, at which point the Democrats threw him under the bus.
The bill has several worthwhile provisions beyond simply prohibiting the distribution of voter registration forms to noncitizens. It would direct DHS to initiate removal proceedings for any noncitizens who are found to have registered to vote. That goes a step further than prosecuting the act of voter fraud, but it's a needed security measure when you consider the millions of illegal migrants who have already been given voter registration forms automatically when they sign up for various benefits or sought a driver's license. It would further require DHS to notify officials when legal migrants are naturalized, ensuring that they will receive their registration forms and have the opportunity to vote as new, legal citizens.

Democrats in Congress are already predictably lining up to oppose the SAVE Act. This really exposes their agenda for the entire country to see. Who could be opposed to election security? They're arguing that the bill is "unnecessary" because it's already illegal for noncitizens to vote. Tell that to the people in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In reality, if you hand voter registration forms to millions of newly arrived migrants, many of whom don't even speak (or read) English, some of them may simply assume that they're supposed to fill them out and that they now have the right to vote. Some of them may even be encouraged to do so by their Democrat benefactors. After all, that was obviously one of the underlying goals of liberals when Biden's open border policies were put in place.
Musk's allegations of "treason" are a bit off the mark here, however. There are clear definitions of what actions constitute treason. These charges typically involve acts of war against your own nation or attempts to disrupt the government's authority. What we're talking about here is simply voter fraud and we have separate penalties for that, none as severe as the death penalty that comes with true treason. And if opposing a piece of legislation qualified as an act of treason, we'd be executing half of the people in the Swamp on a regular basis.
