President Biden turned his debate fumble into an ad for his campaign Monday, highlighting former President Donald Trump’s “lies” and Democratic attempts to rebound from the debacle.

The one-minute ad features Mr. Biden, 81, speaking to North Carolina supporters on Friday, one day after his poor performance from the debate stage in Atlanta.

“Folks, I know I’m not a young man. But I know how to do this job. I know right from wrong. I know how to tell the truth,” Mr. Biden says with greater vigor than his meandering performance the prior night. “And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up.”

Mr. Biden’s inability to keep his lines straight or keep a normal gaze at the debate spooked Democratic donors and lawmakers.

The campaign insists the president will forge on and says “bedwetting” within the party isn’t helpful as they take on Mr. Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee.

The campaign on Monday said supporters, including many first-time donors, have contributed more than $33 million since Thursday.

The new ad tries to turn the debate into a liability for Mr. Trump instead of Mr. Biden. It focuses on Mr. Trump’s grasp of the truth and his role in the events that led to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“I mean this sincerely — the most lies told in a single debate. He lied about the great economy he created. He lied about the pandemic he botched,” Mr. Biden says in the clip from Raleigh. “And then, his biggest lie: He lied about how he had nothing to do with the insurrection on January 6. We all saw it with our own eyes.”

The ad, titled “I Know,” will run on television and digital platforms with a younger or more diverse audience, including ESPN, TNT, Bravo, FX, Freeform, and Comedy Central.

Mr. Trump, meanwhile, took a victory lap after the debate, including a Virginia rally where he mocked Mr. Biden’s multiday study session before the debate.

“He studied very hard,” Mr. Trump said. “He studied so hard that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing.”
