Not since 1892 has a three-time presidential candidate won a second non-consecutive presidential term. Not since Grover Cleveland, who was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States, has there been a winner like the 45th (and soon-to-be 47th) president of the United States. Not since 1968 has a Republican had such an amazing comeback. Not since Richard Nixon, who was the 37th president of the United States, has anyone defied the media so well. All of which is to say President Trump won a huge and deserved victory. He won in spite of everything—and everyone—from malicious prosecution to outright political persecution, to fake news to fake polls, to slander to disinformation on a global scale. He won in spite of the vast and seemingly limitless resources of the Democrat Party. He won in spite of facing multiple opponents. He defeated the unfit and the unqualified. He defeated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He won the Electoral College and the popular vote. He won it all, with Republican majorities in the House and Senate. He united Democrat and Republican voters, ending the reign of divided government. And now he has an agenda—a to-do list—when he returns to the White House.
President Trump was clear about his victory, calling it the greatest political movement of all time. He was also clear about the need to heal the country—to help the country—with regard to the border and the economy. He sounded like Nixon at his best, who spoke of a teenager who had held up a sign: “Bring Us Together Again.” Four simple words, much like four other words: “Make America Great Again.” The words speak to our hopes. The words speak to our beliefs. The words speak to President Trump’s intentions.
After two attempts on President Trump’s life, healing is a necessity. After multiple attempts to destroy President Trump’s quality of life, to bankrupt and imprison him, healing is vital. After all this, Democrats must put an end to lawfare. At least one Democrat, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, seems to agree. If he drops his pursuit of President Trump, if he “winds down” his witch hunt of an investigation, it is not because of a change of heart or a bout of conscience. In this version of “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” the title character goes … away. He leaves Washington, even if he still lives there, in spite of the Deep State.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul should take a cue from Smith. If she has an ounce of intelligence or common sense, she will pardon President Trump before Inauguration Day. If she has an iota of decency, she will do the right thing. If she cares about justice, she will do something about the unjust prosecution and conviction of President Trump. If she does nothing, if she surrenders to the likes of Alvin Bragg and Judge Juan Merchan, she will be an accomplice to the criminalization of politics. Put another way, if Kathy Hochul does not want to be like Hillary Clinton, she will not act or talk like Hillary Clinton.
Again, the rationale is simple. Either Democrats stop their war against President Trump or President Trump will stop it himself. If Hochul refuses to put politics aside, if she refuses to lead, President Trump will show the nation what leadership is.
If Democrats do nothing to heal themselves, the country will continue to reject them. Not that Democrats seem to care, as Joy Reid and Van Jones make clear. Here, for example, is Reid complaining about “fascist” Florida, followed by Jones complaining about how white men speak to Kamala Harris.
Even if Democrats believe what they say, they should know better than to call 72 million of their fellow Americans “garbage.” Politics is, after all, about addition and multiplication, not subtraction and division. Successful politicians court the electorate; they respect the electorate. To succeed in politics, a candidate must ask people to support him; he must ask voters for their support. As President Trump said himself, “You can’t lead America if you don’t love Americans—and you can’t be president if you hate the American people.”
Now take a listen to Vice President-elect JD Vance. Here he is on Election Night, speaking of President Trump’s political victory as a prelude to an economic recovery for all Americans. Here is Vance on converting the greatest political comeback in American history into the greatest economic comeback in American history. The words are positive, patriotic, straightforward, and strong. The words are true to what Vance believes. The words are true to who Vance is: real, steadfast, approachable, sincere. The words are also foreign to Democrats like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and Hillary Clinton.
The words of President Trump and Vice President-elect Vance speak to the best of America, inspiring Americans to do their best. The words speak to the greatness of America, for America is a great and blessed country. America is the land we love.
We saw Americans vote for greatness. We saw over 72 million Americans choose greatness. We saw a multiracial, multicultural movement come together for President Trump. We saw a rainbow coalition form in support of President Trump. We saw the nation rally in support of President Trump. We saw this—and more.
We invite all Americans to celebrate President Trump’s victory.
We continue to “fight, fight, fight” for liberty, justice, and greatness.
America’s comeback will be our greatest victory.
