Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the former presidential candidate who dropped out of the 2024 race to endorse President-elect Donald Trump, has suggested that he would push for the abolition of “entire departments” at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

As reported by The Hill, Kennedy made his remarks during an interview on MSNBC, as he remains the subject of speculation regarding a potential role in the second Trump Administration.

“In some categories,” said Kennedy, “there are entire departments, like the nutrition department at the FDA … that have to go, that are not doing their job. They’re not protecting our kids.”

Kennedy went on to say that “to eliminate the agencies, as long as it requires congressional approval, I wouldn’t be doing that,” instead promising that he “can get the corruption out of the agencies” rather than abolish them outright.

Last week, when asked about what kind of a role he might play in the second term, Kennedy said “we don’t know what I’m going to do,” but that he “talked to the president about it yesterday, and he asked me what I wanted, and I said, we’re developing a proposal now.”

Some have suggested that Kennedy could be tapped for a top role, such as secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), or that he could be given a job that would not require confirmation by the Senate.

Kennedy first announced his 2024 campaign as a Democrat in April of 2023, intending to challenge incumbent Joe Biden in the primaries. He then dropped out of the Democratic primaries in October of that same year and instead switched to an independent candidate for the presidency. In August of 2024, Kennedy withdrew from the race altogether and announced his support for former President Trump; his support was seen as crucial in convincing moderates, disaffected Democrats, and independent voters to support Trump, which may have contributed to his landslide victory on Tuesday.
