The Senate will flip to the GOP after the open seat left by Senator Joe Manchin was won by West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and Bernie Moreno will take the Senate seat from Democrat incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio, per Decision Desk. Nebraska is also set to hold with Republican incumbent Senator Deb Fischer, per Fox News, making the lead for the GOP in the Senate at least 51.

The Democrats have held a 51 to 49 majority in the Senate since the 2022 mid-terms, however, that is likely to change with the election wins with Justice as well as Moreno going to the Senate. There were several close Senate seats that were being held by incumbent Democrats this election cycle, but with many voters dissatisfied with the direction of the country, those voting for the former president likely had an impact on races down-ballot.

The GOP "will hold at least 51 seats, enough for an outright majority. The tipping point seat is Nebraska, where Fox News projects that Republican incumbent Senator Deb Fischer will defeat independent challenger Dan Osborn," Jacqui Heinrich said.

Justice will take the place of Manchin, who recently changed his party from Democrat to Independent. Justice has been the governor of West Virginia but took action when Manchin left the seat open. His race was against Democratic candidate Glenn Elliot, who is a former Mayor of Wheeling, West Virginia.

Donald Trump has also been called to win both states. Ohio, which has long been thought of as a swing state, had shifted more to the right over the last few elections with Trump as a candidate. Moreno, who was endorsed by Trump, ran one of the closest Senate races against Brown.

Brown has been tied by Moreno to the Biden-Harris administration's border policies during the campaign, connecting him to the failures on immigration that have been seen in Springfield, Ohio and other locations in the state.

With the Senate flipping to the Republicans, the GOP will take control as the majority and will be able to push through or block executive nominations of judges and other executive appointees as well as having legislative power.
