During a recent interview with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sounded off on former President Donald Trump, suggesting he was suffering from “cognitive degeneration.” After the baseless claim about the Republican presidential candidate, Pelosi also called out Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, suggesting it would be a “horrible thing” for him to lead the nation.
“I think what the ex-president just said is further indication of his cognitive degeneration. You saw recently how he was talking about whether he chose electrocution or being eaten by sharks. Something is very wrong there and indicative also is diminishing the power of the press, which is the guardian of our freedom in our country,” Pelosi claimed.
The California Democrat made further unsubstantiated claims about Trump’s cognitive state, seemingly indicating that he may not be able to serve out a second term. “So I think people might think about voting for him and have to know that he can’t last as president for four years with his brain deteriorating at the rate it is and it is clearly evident and they may be voting for J. D., which would be a horrible thing for our country,” she said.
Pelosi then claimed she and her family had been the direct victims of Trump’s supposedly violent rhetoric when a man previously broke into her home and attacked her husband. “Our family has experienced the violence. Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy coming into our house, violating the sanctity of our home, the safety of my husband, looking for me, echoing, echoing, what was said on January 6 in the Capitol. ‘Where is Nancy? Where is wears Nancy’ was coming up to punish me for what I had said about Donald Trump,” Pelosi said.
Users on social media reacted to Pelosi’s comments disputing her assertion that Trump is suffering from diminished mental faculties. “Yet, Trump can spend over 3 hours having random conversation on any topic he’s asked about without editing. Have Multiple rallies in 1 day,” one user wrote in the comments section on X.
Another person rebutted Pelosi’s claims, maintaining that the former president is in excellent shape. “There is absolutely no evidence that President Donald J. Trump is other than energetic, humorous, kind, creative, generous of spirit, intelligent and quite physically fit. No one except Comrade Kamala ever made a suggestion that so lacking in integrity and keenness,” they wrote.
“For decades, Pelosi has been making baseless statements about any conservative she pleases. Since there are no negative consequences for her by making these statements, this has become a habit for her. Over the years, her statements become all the more questionable and laughable. Now, thanks to X, Pelosi can be seen for who she really is,” another user said, suggesting this is nothing new from Pelosi.
While Pelosi was quick to question former President Trump’s cognitive abilities, she and other high-ranking Democrats dismissed such substantiated observations about President Biden throughout his presidency before he dropped out of the race earlier this summer. Notably, this criticism against Trump was never touted before Biden’s withdrawal.
