Vice President Kamala Harris halted her star-studded rally in Atlanta twice Saturday amid medical emergencies in the crowd and said they showed her ability to handle tough situations.
It’s unclear what happened, but twice Ms. Harris stopped the rally and called for a medic to assist someone in the crowd. The vice president later suggested the incidents were related to Atlanta’s heat.
After calling for a medic the first time, Ms. Harris asked the crowd to part so the individuals could be treated.
“All right. See this is what we do. We look out for each other. That’s how we roll,” she said. “And that’s what leadership looks like, everybody.”
The crowd cheered in response.
She stopped her speech a second time to request a medic help someone else in the crowd, saying “It’s hot out here, Atlanta.”
Ms. Harris’ remarks were largely similar to the speeches she’s given the past few days in battleground states, pledging to lower high grocery bills, remove abortion restrictions and restore America’s presence on the world stage.
She also took a few swipes at former President Donald Trump, the GOP nominee, telling the crowd that his economic plan will raise prices and that chaos and division follow him wherever he goes.
“These last years of the Trump era, yes, they have been exhausting. They have not been the strength of our nation,” she said.
Multiple celebrities joined Ms. Harris at the event, including Academy Award-winning director Spike Lee, Grammy-nominated singer Victoria Monet, Grammy Award-winning rapper 2 Chains, radio personality Big Tigger and actress Monica.
The event came one day before Mr. Trump’s rally in Macon, Georgia.
Some evidence exists that Mr. Trump is expanding his lead in the Peach State.
Polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight has Mr. Trump leading by 1.5% in Georgia, up from the first week in October, when he was up by half a percentage point.
