Former congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul stated that he is open to assisting with Elon Musk’s “government efficiency” committee if former President Donald Trump is able to win the election on Tuesday.
After Trump was nearly assassinated in Butler, Pennsylvania back in July, Musk fully endorsed the former president and donated large sums of money to his re-election bid. In a lengthy X spaces discussion, Trump suggested that Musk could assist with cutting down on wasteful spending and useless, partisan employees within the federal government.

“And what I’m going to do, one of the first acts, and this is where I need an Elon Musk, I need somebody that has a lot of strength and courage and smarts. I want to close up Department of Education, move education back to the states where states, like Iowa, where states like Idaho, you know, not every state will do great because states that basically aren’t doing good now,” Trump said.
Musk has since campaigned for the former president in every swing state, using the government efficiency committee as a primary selling point.
On Friday, former presidential candidate Ron Paul announced that he would be open to assisting with such an effort. “Would be great to have Ron Paul as part of the Department of Government Efficiency,” Musk wrote in an X post, to which Paul replied, “I’d be happy to talk with you about it, Elon.”

Paul — who emerged as a fierce critic of the war in Iraq and the associated major growth in the federal government — has long been viewed as perhaps the most influential voice on the Libertarian right.
During his presidential bid in 2012, Paul called for the firing of more than 400,000 federal government employees, wanted to shutter five cabinet departments, including Energy, Housing & Urban Development, Commerce, Interior and Education, close the TSA, and drastically cut foreign aid.
This week, JD Vance addressed the unjust and arbitrary nature of the Federal Reserve. Also this week, Elon Musk (in front of a Madison Square Garden crowd) mentioned cutting $2 Trillion from the federal government’s budget.
The two topics are very much intertwined.
