A mass shooting occurred in Orlando, Florida, on Halloween night.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, in a press conference, reported that two are dead and six others are injured from the shooting.

Authorities arrested a 17-year-old suspect on suspicion of carrying out the shooting.

A motive for the shooting has yet to be established.

Two people are dead and at least six others are injured after a shooting in downtown Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of Friday morning as thousands enjoyed the city’s Halloween celebrations, police said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of carrying out the shooting. No motive has so far been established and the identities of those killed and injured have not been released, although police said the victims ranged in age from 19 to 39.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith told a news conference early Friday that shots were fired just after 1 a.m. at Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue with more shots fired nearby minutes later.

The six people who were wounded were taken taken to Orlando Medical Center for Treatment. Police said all were in a stable condition.

Per CNN:

Two people were killed and six others injured after a teenage shooter opened fire in two locations in downtown Orlando where large crowds had gathered to celebrate Halloween, the city’s police chief said early Friday.

A 17-year-old suspect was arrested, Police Chief Eric Smith said at a news conference.

The shooting victims ranged in age from 19 to 39, according to police. Two of the six surviving victims were admitted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition and are listed as stable, hospital spokesperson Marlei Martinez told CNN Friday morning.

The attack was yet another example of gunfire interrupting ordinary American life, from parade routes to campus homecomings to a night out on the town.

This is the 27th mass shooting in Florida this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, with more than 400 nationwide. CNN defines a mass shooting as an incident where at least four people were shot, excluding the shooter.
