Party affiliation ain’t what it used to be.

The Democratic Party and its apparent journey to the outer limits of Americans’ concerns appear to be pushing voters away, most recently in Pennsylvania, the battleground state carrying the most electoral votes and probably the most members of Harris’ campaign staff. More than 50,000 Pennsylvanians, once registered as Democrats, have changed their affiliation this cycle, double the number who left the GOP. This isn’t the first time registered Democrats have bailed on Team Blue, but it comes during a crucial time for the country and its presidential race. Is red the new black, or is the Democratic Party alienating Americans? Perhaps this is the beginning of a new era.

The Democratic Party Moves Left of America

In June of 2022, the Associated Press examined data and discovered more than one million voters throughout 43 states had changed their affiliation from Democrat to Republican. It’s “a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country,” CBS noted, “in the period since President Joe Biden replaced former President Donald Trump.”

The shift was most prevalent among well-educated swing voters in the suburbs. Republicans also gained traction among cities in three battleground states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Some people switched sides, CBS highlighted, because of the Democratic Party’s support of mandatory COVID-19 vaccines, its inability to mitigate violent crime, and its fixation on racial justice. It seems voters are growing weary of the tilt into radical territory.

White women are also increasingly gravitating toward the Republican Party, as are Hispanic voters and, more recently, black voters who appear unimpressed by Harris’ seemingly hackneyed appeals to win them over. Though most college voters continue to vote blue, the number of people with a degree is declining, and 63% of white Americans without a degree identify as or lean toward Republican. Not only that but the Pew Research Center estimates that “a greater share of registered voters say they are both ideologically conservative and associate with the Republican Party (33%) than say they are liberal and align with the Democratic Party (23%).”

Meanwhile, back in Pennsylvania, some Democratic operatives are getting nervous. Philadelphia City Councilmember Isaiah Thomas expressed his anxiety in an interview with Politico’s Eugene Daniels: “The concern is there. Just because I’m confident that we’re going to win doesn’t mean that I go to sleep every night without a high level of anxiety. The anxiety is there. The fear is there. We’re worried about what a Trump presidency would mean for four more years for cities like Philadelphia. Because we know that a lot of folks talk about how bad things are right now, but a lot of people have a short memory.” A short memory indeed. So many Democratic voters and officials seem to forget their unelected nominee is in the administration responsible for “how bad things are right now.” Worse, Harris proudly admitted on The View that she was a part of most major decisions in the current administration and said she would not change a thing about how she and President Biden handled the last four years.

The Trump campaign celebrated in the Keystone State when learning a slew of voters had switched to the GOP this cycle, stating, “Kamala Camp HQ is no doubt asking what the heck their 400 paid staffers and 50 offices in Pennsylvania have been doing this whole time, since their only output seems to be drumming up some meaningless stories about office openings and their supposedly well-oiled ground game.”

To understand why so many voters are leaving the Democratic Party, one doesn’t need to go far or dig deep into the internet. Not only do many Americans seem exhausted by the ultra-progressive tilt many on the more radical left are pushing on Americans, but, according to Gallup, when it comes to the issues Americans consider most important – such as the economy, crime, and immigration – voters trust the GOP more than the Democratic Party to manage them. More striking, as Liberty Nation recently highlighted, is that Gallup’s records show “in every election since 1952, the party viewed more favorably on the most important issue(s) has won the presidency.” History speaks volumes and tends to seem more accurate than polls.
