Israel accused Hezbollah of allegedly hiding more than $500 million in gold and cash in a secret bunker beneath a Beirut hospital — tipping off Lebanese officials to the stash while saying there were no plans to attack the building.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson, claimed that the money bunker was located beneath the al-Sahel hospital in southern Beirut, as the IDF conducted airstrikes on branches linked to Hezbollah’s financial institutions, according to a Times of Israel translation.  

“The bunker was deliberately placed under a hospital, and it holds more than half a billion dollars in cash and gold,” Hagari said, claiming the site belonged to slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

“That money could have been used to rehabilitate Lebanon, but it went to rehabilitate Hezbollah,” he added.

The bunker is supposedly connected to the hospital via a shaft, with the underground space housing several rooms for Hezbollah’s operations, according to the IDF.

The bunker also allegedly connects to another building several yards away from the hospital.

While Hagari said the IDF had no plans to strike the medical building, instead inviting Lebanese officials to inspect the site.

“I’m calling on the Lebanese government, Lebanese authorities, and the international organizations — don’t allow Hezbollah to use the money for terror and to attack Israel,” he said.

Hospital director Fadi Alameh, who denied the allegations, told reporters that the facility was being evacuated.

Alameh also invited the Lebanese army to visit the hospital to debunk the IDF’s claims.

Several Israeli strikes were already reported in the area following a warning from fellow IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who warned Lebanese civilians to flee several neighborhoods in southern Beirut.

“You are located near facilities and interests belonging to Hezbollah, which the Israeli army will target in the near future,” Adraee wrote on X.

Like with Hamas in Gaza, the IDF has accused Hezbollah of operating and hiding its terror infrastructure inside civilian spaces, complicating the war effort.

The allegations and 3D presentation Hagari presented on the alleged Hezbollah bunker mirror the ones from last year about Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital, which the Israeli military claimed housed a large Hamas command center.

The evidence against the Gaza hospital fell short of backing up the IDF’s claims, resulting in backlash over the initial military operations at the medical facility. 

Israel has vowed to wipe out Hezbollah’s finances to ensure its permanent defeat as the Jewish state continues to decimate its leadership and weapons in the ongoing airstrikes and raids in Lebanon.

On Sunday night, the IDF struck financial institutions associated with Hezbollah across Lebanon. Israel said it’s now targeting funders of the Shiite group after taking out top commanders in the terror group, including Nasrallah in September.
