Kamala Harris Has Testy Interview on Fox

Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, appeared on Fox News on Wednesday for a much-anticipated interview, with many Americans hoping to see her encounter challenging questions from the media for a change. Harris assumed a defensive stance for much of the discussion with host Bret Baier.

‘I Feel Awful’: At one point, Harris complained that Fox didn’t show a clip of Republican rival Donald Trump talking about “the enemy within” the United States. “You didn’t show that. And here’s the bottom line. He has repeated it many times,” Harris exclaimed. “And you and I both know that. And you and I both know that he has talked about turning the American military on the American people.” Baier also brought up high-profile cases of citizens being murdered by illegal aliens, including Jocelyn Nungaray, asking Harris if she owed the families of the victims an apology. “I’m so sorry for her [Nungaray’s mother’s] loss. Sincerely. But let’s talk about what is happening right now with an individual [Trump] who does not want to participate in solutions,” Harris replied. “Let’s talk about that as well. In all fairness, I told you I feel awful for what she and her family have experienced.” Related: Kamala’s election pitch to black men – free cash and more.

US Military Hits Houthi Targets in Yemen

The US military’s engagement in the war-torn Middle East has just escalated significantly. “US Central Command forces conducted multiple airstrikes on numerous Iran-backed Houthi weapons storage facilities within Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen,” a defense official revealed Wednesday.

Stealth Bombers Attack: “The defense official said the weapons were used to ‘target military and civilian vessels navigating international waters throughout the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden,’” ABC News reports. “Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that B-2 strategic stealth bombers were used in the strikes against ‘five hardened underground weapons storage locations in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.’ His statement also hinted that using such significant aircraft for the job was meant to send a signal to other bad actors in the region. ‘The employment of US Air Force B-2 Spirit long-range stealth bombers demonstrate US global strike capabilities to take action against these targets when necessary, anytime, anywhere,’” the statement read. Biden Announces $425M More in Military Aid for Ukraine

What’s a few hundred million dollars more, taxpayers? President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that the US would send a new $425 million military aid package to Ukraine. In a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden discussed the Eastern European nation’s ongoing war with Russia.

$8 Billion Before He Leaves: “Included in the package are additional air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles and munitions, the White House said in a readout of the president’s call,” The Hill reports. “Biden, in his call with the Ukrainian leader, discussed how the US will provide a range of additional military capabilities over the coming months, according to the White House. In September, Biden announced he would distribute $8 billion in assistance to Ukraine before the end of his presidential term in January,” the news site notes. Wisconsin Down From 500 to 78 Ballot Drop Boxes in ’24

A controversial feature of the 2020 presidential election in a key battleground state will be decidedly less prominent yet still very much around in 2024. “Wisconsin has 78 drop boxes currently in use throughout the state as opposed to 500 in the 2020 presidential election, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission,” The Center Square reports.

In the Cities: “Those are the communities that have registered the drop boxes with the state, according to Wisconsin Administrator of Wisconsin Elections Commission Meagan Wolfe,” the news site details. “That drop box total includes 14 in the city of Milwaukee, 14 in Madison and seven in Racine. Drop boxes have become a hot topic in the state after this election cycle with following a Wisconsin state Supreme Court ruling allowing their use but not requiring it. Previously, the court had blocked the use of ballot drop boxes after the 2020 presidential election.” Related: Will pandemic-era election laws crush Republicans again?

Archdiocese of Los Angeles Reaches $880M Child Sex Abuse Settlement

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to a historic $880 million payment to settle 1,354 sex abuse claims made against it dating back to the 1940s. “It is the largest single child sex abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese,” NBC News reports.

Scandalous: “The lawsuits were filed under California Assembly Bill 218, which lifted the statute of limitations and provided a three-year window to revive civil claims of past sexual abuse involving minors. The settlement covers remaining claims that were filed against the Archdiocese under the bill passed in 2019,” the network relates. With the new settlement, the archdiocese will have spent more than $1.5 billion on sex abuse claim payouts in the past 17 years. “In 2007, the archdiocese settled child sex abuse lawsuits with 500 victims for $660 million. As with that settlement, the archdiocese’s administrative office will take financial responsibility for the most recent settlement, drawing from reserves, investments, loans and other archdiocese assets and payments,” NBC writes.
