According to recent reports, former President Donald Trump retook the lead from Joe Biden in a critical swing state he had won in the 2016 election.  Recent polls have shown Trump ahead of his incumbent opponent in many swing states.

A new poll from Marist College discovered that Trump is ahead of Biden 47-45 in Pennsylvania.  However, this slight lead is well within the survey’s margin of error, so nothing is definitive from the data.  Other candidates, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West, polled at 3%, 1%, and 2%, respectively.

In 2016, Trump narrowly won the state against Hillary Clinton, becoming the first Republican candidate in nearly three decades to take Pennsylvania.  However, in 2020, Biden won the Quaker state by a small margin. Per the Marist poll, the Biden-Harris campaign may face different circumstances this time.

“While still strong, Biden has lost his formidable support among black voters. 68% break for Biden to 23% for Trump. Biden handily won the support of most black voters in the 2020 presidential election, 92% to 7% for Trump,” analysis from the poll stated.

Last month, The American Tribune reported on a CNN segment where the network assessed polling data showing Trump ahead in five of the six key battleground states.  Even the left-leaning network was sounding the alarm, calling the ratings an “absolute disaster” for Joe Biden.

“Frankly, for the Joe Biden campaign. These numbers are an absolute disaster. The smallest lead is in Arizona for Donald Trump, he’s up six. Look at this, 9 in Georgia. 13 in Nevada, my goodness gracious, My God. That is a huge lead. No Democrat has lost that state since John Kerry lost it back in 2004,”CNN analyst Harry Enten said.

He continued, “How about these Great Lakes battleground states? This is something that the Joe Biden campaign can work with look, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump up three but that’s well within the margin of error. Wisconsin, Donald Trump up one well within the margin of error, and actually a Joe Biden leave well within the margin of error. A point here this they can work with the Joe Biden campaign.”

Enten concluded that, while nothing is definitive, former President Trump has a solid chance at retaking the presidency.  “It’s advantage Donald Trump, but he’s not over the 270 mark just yet….So it’s advantage Donald Trump but Joe Biden does at this point have a path to 270.”

Alongside his strong performance in swing states, Trump has even shown surprising signs of support from deep blue states, such as New York.  The presumptive Republican nominee has suggested he may even be competitive in the state.

Earlier this month, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Hello, New York! There is a very important Republican Primary Election on TUESDAY, JUNE 25th, for the United States House of Representatives and other important races, and I need you to get out and vote! I believe that, with your support, we can WIN the state of New York…”

He added in another statement, “I believe that with your support, we can win the state of New York and I’m looking to win it as your presidential nominee. We are going to win New York – remember those words. I hope I’m gonna be correct. If I am, the election is over.”
