Now, I’m as critical of Islam as the next guy. (Well, the next sane guy, anyway, who doesn’t think Christianity is a suicide cult and doesn’t smear White Guilt Sunblock™ [SPF 15,000] all over himself trying to pass for a Park Avenue Episcopalian.) And I agree there’s a time and a place for forthright expressions of strong religious differences. For instance, in battles like Lepanto.

But I still think it’s unseemly for the governor of an American state bound by the First Amendment to engage in public blasphemy that needlessly offends and degrades millions of U.S. citizens. And it seems downright puzzling for a governor to do that just three weeks away from a close presidential election. There was something deeply creepy about the defiant look on said governor’s face as he stared into the camera after his ritual. It came across almost as a threat of organized violence against members of that faith, or at least legal persecution.

Don’t believe this incident really happened? Here’s the footage, out on X for the whole world to see:

See what I mean? Okay, okay, I admit to a couple of typos in the headline and paragraphs above. For “De Santis” please plug in “Gretchen Whitmer.” And instead of “burning a Quran” insert “mocking the Eucharist.” But otherwise, what I wrote was sound, solid journalism and cogent analysis.

Or you might call it satire. Let’s not quibble, people.

Scariest Second Grade Teacher in History

The point is that we now know it’s okay for American governors to mock the central religious mysteries of millions of U.S. citizens. As long as they’re Christians, anyway. We already learned from Gov. Whitmer — who comes across as the most menacing second-grade teacher ever to drive a sensitive student to bedwetting — that a long list of things are acceptable which once were considered off-limits. She doesn’t so much scratch the glass ceiling as trash long-standing norms of liberty and sanity. In her time in office, Whitmer has checked many items off the Sociopathic Tyrant Bucket List:

  • Dumped COVID patients into the one place where they were certain to kill thousands of people — nursing homes — in order to raise the state’s death rate and justify fraud-prone mail-in balloting to steal the 2020 election.
  • Imposed a worse-than-North-Korea-level lockdown during the COVID Panic (which her own state’s Supreme Court later ruled was completely illegal) forbidding citizens to purchase seeds or go out alone on lakes in boats. Her own husband flagrantly violated that same lockdown, but hey, it’s good to be the queen, amirite?
  • Conspired with corrupt FBI agents to fake a kidnapping plot against herself, which saw federal agents actively recruiting, cajoling, and paying hapless, entrapped citizens to join a fake conspiracy — so they could then be imprisoned for terrorism. All of this was a dry run for the January 6 fedsurrection, run by the same FBI agent, Steven D’Antuono, who’d overseen the kidnapping psy-op.
  • Colluded with a shady nonprofit called The Voter Project Michigan to send out tens of thousands of blank absentee ballots to voters who never requested them.

But let’s not obsess over Whitmer. It’s not as if she were representative of Democrats — who chose her to deliver their response to Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union address. Which actually meant that the party chose her to represent it … better not to overthink this, okay? I want all you people to relax and realize that it’s okay not to vote because you’re too otherworldly and pure.

We should only be worried about the religious liberty of Christians if really crazy things were happening to them. Like the FBI selectively infiltrating churches on the suspicion that they harbored “domestic extremists.” Oh, yeah … wait a minute ….

David French’s 30 Pieces of Silver

Still, no less an authority than David “Vichy” French has assured us that Christians face no religious liberty threats in this election. He made an upbeat little video reminding us that in the hundreds of nuisance lawfare suits lodged by wealthy nonprofits and blue-state agencies against ordinary Christians, after many years of pricy litigation … the Christians often prevail at the Supreme Court. That’s a court he wants to help Kamala Harris pack so that Christians never prevail there again, but let’s not get hung up on details.

The point is that David French is a model of Christian civic engagement, and his After Party curriculum, which pro-abortion foundations funded to tell Christians not to vote their consciences, is a profound document. You might even call it “biblical,” in the sense that Caiaphas, Herod, and Judas were biblical figures and Gomorrah is a biblical place.

And we live in what seem like biblical times. We’ve got our own Tower of Babel at the Vatican, where Pope Francis bays for open borders and pounds his fist for global government. We have our own Sadducees in the form of woke evangelical pastors demanding we dump our kids in pornified, godless government schools. We even have the Assyrians, in the form of hordes of migrants ready to pick our country’s carcass clean.

In fact, I think things might be a tad too biblical for my tastes. So I’ll go back to the scriptures I learned to study as a Catholic: The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings.
