Democratic candidate Elissa Slotkin and Republican challenger Mike Rogers are tied in the key swing state of Michigan in a race to replace Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, according to a Quinnipiac poll from Wednesday.

The two Senate candidates are tied in Michigan at 48%, despite the Democratic congresswoman’s previous polling advantages, according to the poll. Flipping the seat red may give Republicans the advantage they need to regain the majority in the Senate.

“Mike has dedicated his life to working on behalf of the people of Michigan, while Slotkin simply represents everything wrong with Washington,” Chris Gustafson, communications director for Rogers’ campaign, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Michiganders continue to show Slotkin that she cannot lie or buy her way to the U.S. Senate, and are instead looking for a true leader like Mike Rogers to stop the job-destroying EV mandates and represent our values in the Senate,” he said.

Electric vehicle (EV) mandates have been a recurring topic during the state race, and 57% of likely voters oppose such government incentives, according to the poll. The majority of Republicans, 91%, and independents, 58%, oppose incentives driving consumers to purchase EVs., while most Democrats support them.

Slotkin has tried to distance herself from EV mandates during the race, but has repeatedly voted to support them.

Some EV regulations, like ones from the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, force auto manufacturers to increase production of EVs and zero-emissions vehicles by 2032. The Biden administration has also spent billions to boost the production and adoption of EVs.

Most polls leading up to Election Day have put Rogers in a deficit, according to FiveThirtyEight. Both of Michigan’s Senate seats have been reliably blue for nearly four decades, electing just one Republican Senator, Spencer Abraham, in 1994.

Slotkin’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
