A majority of Americans are worried about the prospect of noncitizens voting illegally in U.S. elections, a new Scripps News/Ipsos poll found.

Respondents were asked, “How concerned are you, if at all … about non-citizens voting illegally … in this year’s election?”

A majority of respondents, 51 percent, indicted that they were concerned about noncitizen voting. A plurality if respondents, 36 percent, said they were “very concerned” while an additional 15 percent indicated they are “somewhat concerned.”

An additional 18 percent of respondents said they were “not very concerned,” while just 29 percent said they were not concerned at all.

The poll also found that 54 percent of Americans support mass deportations of illegal aliens, more than 6 million of whom have arrived in the United States since President Biden took office in 2021.

In total, 30 percent of respondents indicated “strong” support for mass deportations, while an additional 24 percent somewhat support the policy, which former President Donald Trump has vowed to implement if re-elected.

An additional 20 percent of respondents are “somewhat opposed” to mass deportations, while 23 percent are strongly opposed. Four percent of respondents declined to answer the question.

The poll also found overall support for former President Trump on the illegal immigration issue, as 44 percent of respondents said Trump will do a better job at handling the crisis. Just 34 percent said Vice President Harris would do the same.

The poll sampled 1,027 Americans from September 13 to 15 with a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.

Since President Biden took office in 2021, more than 7 million illegal aliens have entered the United States. These figures do not include “gotaways,” which refers to illegal aliens who were able to avoid detection.

Despite the massive influx of illegal immigration, House Democrats have refused to pass the “SAVE Act,” which would allow implement a number of reviews and safeguards to crack down on noncitizen voting.

If enacted, the legislation will require state election officials to ask about citizenship before providing voter registration forms. There is currently no requirement to provide proof of citizenship in order to receive federal voting forms. According to a recent report from the New York Post, this has led to non-citizens receiving voting forms in 49 states.

The SAVE Act would also allow state officials to accept a wide variety of documents that will make it easy for citizens to register to vote in federal elections, provide states with access to federal agency databases so they can remove noncitizens from voter rolls and confirm citizenship for individuals lacking proof of citizenship, and direct the Department of Homeland Security to determine whether to conduct removal proceedings if a noncitizen has been identified as having registered to vote in federal elections.
