On Tuesday, US District Judge Aileen Cannon set a November 18 start date for the trial of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man charged with attempting to assassinate 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump as he played golf in Florida on September 18.

This comes after Routh, 58, pleaded not guilty to five federal charges, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate.

According to Newsweek, a Calendar Call is set for 1:45 pm on November 12 to make sure both sides are prepared for the trial. All motions must be filed by October 18.

Cannon was assigned the case in late September. The Florida federal judge also presided over the Mar-a-Lago documents case brought forth against Donald Trump by Biden-Harris admin special counsel Jack Smith. That case was dismissed in July. 

Routh allegedly camped out near Trump International Golf Course for 12 hours on September 15 waiting for the former president. Prosecutors said that Routh’s attempt was thwarted after Secret Service agents spotted a rifle sticking through the fence at the golf course and opened fire. Routh was later arrested on I-95.

Routh was denied bail, being deemed a flight risk. A letter allegedly written by Routh was included in court filings by the prosecution, which offered a $150,000 reward for "whomever can complete the job."

"This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job," the letter stated.
