The Lebanese cabinet unanimously approved the resolution on 12 August 2006. It required disarmament of Hezbollah, with no armed forces other than UNIFIL and the Lebanese military south of the Litani River. But Iran and Hezbollah essentially cast a de facto veto and declined to comply. Now, here we are 18 years later dealing with the grim consequences of another UN failure.
