Travis Kelce may have been a bit apprehensive about getting too close to the presidential podium at the White House recently for fear of being tased, but the Secret Service said a comment it made was all in good fun.

Kelce said, both during the Chiefs’ visit to the White House last Friday and during the “New Heights Podcast” released on Wednesday, that Secret Service agents warned the star tight end that if he attempted to get near the podium they were “authorized” to tase him.

But Kelce was never in any danger of being on the bad side of the Secret Service, spokesperson Nathan Herring told People on Wednesday.

President Joe Biden invites tight end Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs to speak during an event on the South Lawn of the White House on May 31, 2024 in Washington, DC.

“Our agents and officers were happy to support Travis and the Chiefs’ official visit to the White House, even presenting him with a Secret Service pin,” Herring told the outlet. “As for the taser comment, Travis and our personnel were having some friendly banter as we have passionate football fans throughout our organization.”

Kelce, of course, attempted to sneak up to the podium in 2023 when the Chiefs were there.

But he was caught last minute by Patrick Mahomes before he could say much.

This year, President Joe Biden invited Kelce to speak at the podium.

“My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all yet again,” Kelce said before losing his nerve and telling Biden that the Secret Service had warned that he would be tased.

During the podcast this week, Kelce said that “our or five Secret Service members” approached him during the visit.

“You know, if you go up to that podium, we’re authorized to tase you. … It is actually an order for us to tase you,” Kelce said on the episode.

Kelce’s older brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, tried to reassure Kelce that he likely wasn’t in any danger if the president invited him up.

I don’t know dude I was just in my head,” Kelce said. “I’m like dude, I’m about to get f–king tased. They warned me! Joe, you bear trapped me you motherf–ker.”
