The Biden-Harris debacle of a withdrawal from Afghanistan was brought about by our distracted president (“Joe’s show since Day 1,” Rich Lowry, Sept. 10).

Biden’s disavowal of former President Donald Trump’s foreign policy led to a withdrawal so heinous that we lost 13 soldiers in the Abbey Gate bombing, a vital military base and millions of dollars of military equipment.

The weakness this showed has emboldened Russia, Iran and China. If Vice President Harris wins this election, expect a further breakdown of our national security.

The decision by Biden to exit Afghanistan was, in my opinion, the best foreign-policy decision made by the US since the end of the Cold War. The occupation stretched our limited resources.

It seems obvious that President Biden and Harris were looking out for themselves rather than our troops. Rather than listen to the advice of many, they rushed ahead with no concern for the results.

In the decision to leave Afghanistan, the Biden administration defied the military’s advice, set a fixed date to withdraw and failed to react to the situation on the ground.

Nothing was more disturbing than the revelation that Biden ignored the recommendations of senior military advisors. Perhaps the committee’s report will convince Americans that it’s time for a change.

The Issue: Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Phony conservatives — former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter ex-Rep. Liz Cheney — are voting for Vice President Kamala Harris (“Trump rips into ‘RINO’ Cheneys,” Sept. 8).

The Cheney family has always been upset with former President Donald Trump, partly for opposing the Iraq war. But if you had any decency, Dick, you and your family would sit this one out.

Congratulations to you two, though — now you are both esteemed members of the socialist Democratic Party. You have a lot of other RINOs also joining you like Mitt Romney and members of the Bush administration.

Even though Cheney is a Republican like Trump, he has endorsed Harris for president.

His personal animus towards Trump allows him to shoot the messenger of conservatism. Given that Cheney had infamously shot a friend in the face by accident, we can only hope that, for a fractured nation like ours, his endorsement is a misfire that doesn’t hit its mark.
