Police in Oregon said Saturday that they charged a man with murder after they found his missing neighbor’s body.
Beaverton police said they took Bryce Johnathan Schubert, 27, into custody Friday evening, two days after Melissa Jubane vanished.
Authorities said Mr. Schubert was “involved in her disappearance” in announcing his arrest.
“While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” Beaverton police said in a statement.
Ms. Jubane, 32, was reported missing Wednesday when she didn’t show up for her nursing shift at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland.
Police said a search of Ms. Jubane’s apartment was fruitless and the woman left behind almost no digital footprint for investigators to follow.
“Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off,” Beaverton police said. “Additionally, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information regarding her location.”
Authorities didn’t say where they found Ms. Jubane’s body and they did not describe any injuries she may have suffered.
Police didn’t say when Mr. Schubert will make his initial court appearance.
