Sen. Tim Scott, South Carolina Republican, claimed President Biden “resegregated” schools under his administration, and said former President Donald Trump would fix those issues.

“If you look at cities like Chicago today, the elimination of charter schools under Joe Biden resegregated schools in America,” Mr. Scott said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” show. “We need four more years of common sense under Donald Trump, and not four more years of segregation under Joe Biden.”

He hit Mr. Biden for not standing up to the teachers unions, and said the “growth of charter schools that provides greater diversity and opportunities” was stunted during his administration.

“As a result, the future of these kids will be lower and devastated, because the closest thing to magic in America is a good education,” Mr. Scott said. “And the place where you can’t find that is in blue cities dominated by a monopoly on their city councils, where they refuse to allow poor kids, typically black, to go to other schools within their own cities.”

Mr. Scott referenced back to when Vice President Kamala Harris and Mr. Biden had a heated exchange in 2019 regarding his past of praising segregationist senators, and his opposition of busing, when they were both running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“If you’re really concerned about racial justice in America, let’s not forget, Joe Biden is the guy that talked about racial jungles as a result of desegregation,” Mr. Scott said. “His own Vice President Kamala Harris said he supported segregation.”

Mr. Scott, who is widely believed to be on Mr. Trump’s short list for a vice-presidential pick, was asked on the show what he would tell Black voters who are concerned about Mr. Trump.

“Here’s what I can tell you, is that under Donald Trump, we were better off,” he said. “There are two things that are driving black votes back to Donald Trump, jobs and justice. Number one, under Donald Trump, our wages were going up. Right now, fairness is going down. But if you’re really concerned about racial justice in America, let’s not forget, Joe Biden is the guy that talked about racial jungles as a result of desegregation.”

He said Mr. Biden was the “only person [he has] seen restraining black folks economically.”
