Former President Donald Trump told podcaster Lex Fridman that he did not want to imprison former first lady and Sec. of State Hillary Clinton because it would have “looked so horrible” for the US. “I felt it was awful to seize and imprison the president’s spouse,” stated Trump. “My goal is to unite the nation.”
“You’ll have unmatched power if you take the helm once more. What effects does such power have, only on your own psychology? Is there a chance that it will skew your perception of reality?” Lex Fridman asked
“It’s not likely,” Trump said in response. “Look, I’ve spent four years there. I have the ability to inflict a lot of damage to Hillary Clinton. I felt that the president’s wife’s arrest and imprisonment would look awful.”
Trump went on, “She’s very happy I didn’t do anything. Hillary is a fortunate woman because so many people encouraged me to—they were eager to see something done.”
Trump continued, “I thought that would look so horrible. Remember that she had been both the Secretary of State and the spouse of the President of the United States?”
“However, after I left, they had all these fake accounts,” Trump said. “Just like they did with ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’ they have all these shady fake scams. The 51 distinct organizations or agents were a scam. Everything about it was a lie.”
The former president continued by explaining that he did not want to imprison Hillary Clinton because he wanted to bring the nation together.
Trump remarked, “I didn’t want to throw her in jail, and I didn’t. And I gave others an explanation. They say, “Lock her up, lock her up,” you know. We prevailed. We don’t want to lock her up, I added. Our goal is to unite the nation. My goal is to unite the nation.”
Trump said, “Putting Hillary in jail doesn’t bring the country together.”
Conversely, Democrats did not spare any time in portraying the US as a banana republic in the third world, as Trump explained:
“But then after I got out, you know, they started to work on me. It’s incredible. They have severe cases of TDS, or Trump Derangement Syndrome. I’m not sure if it’s treatable.”
