On Friday, a judge in New Mexico denied Alec Baldwin's motion to dismiss his manslaughter indictment, thereby maintaining the case's July trial start date.

Variety reports that each of Baldwin's attorneys' petitions for dismissal was denied by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who determined that the grand jury procedure did not exhibit any bias against the actor.

If Baldwin is found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the murder of "Rust" cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, he may spend up to 18 months behind bars. He is accused of carelessly pointing his gun at Hutchins and pressing the trigger while preparing to film a scene. He has also been criticized for his part in the lack of safety precautions on set.

In April, the film's armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced by a jury to 18 months in prison on involuntary manslaughter charges. She has also been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. Although Baldwin pulled the trigger, Gutierrez-Reed was held responsible for leaving loaded guns on set.
