On Monday, a left-wing group consisting of anti-Trump Republicans announced a major ad buy in several swing states that will attack former President Donald Trump and attempt to encourage conservatives to vote for Kamala Harris.

According to the Daily Caller, Republican Voters Against Trump (RVAT), which has frequently been funded by top Democratic donors, will spend $4.5 million in Pennsylvania, $3 million in Michigan, $2.2 million in Wisconsin, $1.5 million in Arizona, and $375,000 in Nebraska’s second congressional district. The ad campaign will include TV commercials and billboards.

“Donald Trump has destroyed the Republican Party,” said Sarah Longwell, a spokeswoman for RVAT, in a press release on Monday. “And every election cycle he drives more and more Republicans to vote for Democrats, because they believe Donald Trump and the GOP candidates who imitate him are unfit for office.”

Longwell’s claim that President Trump has driven “more and more Republicans to vote for Democrats” is false; in the 2020 election, Trump gained 11 million more votes than he received in 2016. With just over 74 million votes, he received the largest vote total of any Republican presidential candidate, as well as any incumbent president, in American history.

“We help elevate the voices of these disaffected Republicans and build a permission structure for many other traditional GOP voters to reject Donald Trump and his MAGA movement, even if it means voting for Democrats with whom they might have policy differences,” she added.

But RVAT’s parent organization, the Republican Accountability PAC, has received as much as 75% of its overall funding from six major Democrats: Reid Hoffman, a former associate of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein; John Pritzker, cousin of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.); NVIDIA board member Tench Coxe; financier Robert Rothouse; venture capitalist Robert Stavis; and hedge fund manager Seth Klarman.

The ad buy is seen as a move of desperation, as President Trump continues to maintain polling leads over Harris in all of the swing states. According to the Real Clear Politics aggregate of polls, Trump is leading in Pennsylvania by 0.5%, as well as a 1.1% margin in Michigan and a 1.4% margin in Wisconsin. He also leads in Georgia by 0.2%, 0.6% in North Carolina, and is tied with Harris in Nevada.
