As Democrats continue to try to make political hay out of his Aug. 26 visit to Arlington National Cemetery, former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign on Sunday issued a statement from Gold Star military families defending him and rebuking criticism from Kamala Harris’s team. Gold Star families are those that have lost a loved one in military service.

‘Invited By Us’: “President Trump was invited by us, the Gold Star families, to attend the solemn ceremonies commemorating the three-year anniversary of our children’s deaths,” the joint statement read. “He was there to honor their sacrifice, yet Vice President Harris has disgracefully twisted this sacred moment into a political ploy.” Trump was appreciative. “Thank you for saying you wanted me to stand with you… and take pictures, that it was your request, not mine,” he wrote in a social media post. Israel Erupts in Protests After Deaths of Hostages

Thousands of Israelis protested in the streets in Tel Aviv Sunday as the nation continued to deal with the shock of discovering six hostages of the Gaza War had been killed. While protesters were demanding a cease fire agreement to prevent more hostage deaths, other voices strongly condemned Hamas for the slayings.

Teamsters Want to Meet Harris Before 2024 Endorsement

The head of one of the largest labor unions in America says his organization wants to meet with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris before it formally endorses a candidate in the 2024 election. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien told CBS News Sunday that the union is close to making a decision between Harris and former President Donald Trump.

‘Waiting On’ Kamala: “Under our leadership, we’ve brought every single candidate to the table in front of our rank-and-file members and our general executive board, and we’re waiting on Vice President Harris to commit, to come meet with us,” O’Brien stated. “We want the opportunity to sit down with Vice President Harris,” O’Brien continued. “You know, I said to someone the other day, you don’t hire someone unless you give them an interview. Populist Right Wins Key German Local Election

The populist right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party on Sunday was poised to capture a regional election in the state of Thuringia, projections show.

Tottering Establishment? “The AfD was set to win 33.2% of the vote in Thuringia, comfortably ahead of the conservatives’ 23.6%, broadcaster ZDF’s projection revealed, a vote share that, depending on final seat allocations, could let it block decisions requiring a two-thirds majority,” Reuters reports. “The appointment of judges or top security officials are among such decisions.” The AfD surged elsewhere as well. “In neighboring Saxony, projections put the conservatives, who have run the state since 1990, on 31.5%, just 1.1 percentage points ahead of the AfD,” the wire service notes.
