North Korea has gone into “wartime mode” after two of its biggest enemies took part in join trailing drills.
The order to increase “wartime security efforts” was made by Kim Jong-un in response to the Ulchi Freedom Shield joint drills performed by South Korea and the United States. The pair teamed up for the drills on August 19, which appears to have panicked North Korean officials, Daily NK claims.
A source in the North Hamgyong Province told them: “In accordance with orders to strengthen wartime security efforts on August 18, the city of Hoeryong has tightened round-the-clock security at statues, revolutionary battlefields and historical sites.”

As well as the two sworn enemies of North Korea joining forces, the drills have previously included Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand.
Previous drills have focussed on land, sea, air, cyber, and space assets with “emphasis on counter nuclear operations and non-kinetic effects”.
The move has left locals fuming, apparently, as one said: “They’re ratcheting up surveillance on our families under the guise of bolstering security. Far from being helpful, that makes things harder on everybody.”
And another said: “If you leave your post for even a moment while on guard duty, you’re treated like some traitor. They impose all kinds of non-tax burdens and labor duties on us at a time when many people can barely afford a bowl of gruel. And as if that weren’t enough, they’re forcing us to stand guard with our neighbourhood watch unit. It’s as if they don’t care if we live or die.”
And just days after the move was announced, Kim Jong-un was seen inspecting new “suicide drones” at North Korea's “Drone Institute”.
No details about the specs of the drones were given, but Dear Leader was seen watching on as one flew directly into a target, causing a huge fireball to shoot into the sky.
And according to Rodong, while on the visit he called for more development of “underwater strategic weapon systems like a nuclear torpedo . . . and unmanned underwater suicide attack craft”.
